The city of Highland is a beautiful city located 1,300 feet in the San Bernardino Mountains. Part of San Bernardino county, Highland was incorporated in November of 1987. It is a city proud of it history and tradition.

The original townsite was founded in 1891 and today, many of the buildings built during that era still stand and are in use today. The city is a blend of both old and new that reflects a community that is proud of its historical past – one that was closely tied to California’s citrus industry, while at the same time transitioning into the modern Highland of today.

Highland is a mainly residential community with a wide array of affordable housing options. New residential developments are currently being built. Aside from these, Highland now serves as home to the East Highlands Ranch, a beautiful master-planned community that offers premium housing and private recreation facilities. Highland Schools

The city  of Highland puts a premium on education. It has two award-winning school districts that serve the community – The Redlands Unified School District and the San Bernardino Unified School District. Both of these have schools named as California Distinguished Schools.

Aside from these public school sstems, there are private and parochial schools that serve the immediate area. There are excellent college and university choices close to the city as well: The University of Redlands, Loma Linda University, University of California at Riverside, California State University San Bernardino. Community colleges in the area are San Bernardino Valley and Crafton.

Highland Recreation

In terms of recreational activities, Highland has a lot to offer. Being close to the San Bernardino and the San Gabriel mountains, it is just a short drive away to go skiing and take advantage of other mountain recreational activities.

Further, there is an extensive trails system that link to the Santa Ana River trail. In the future, this trail will connect the San Bernardino Mountains to the Orange County coast. Highland is also just 45 minutes away from Palm Springs and close enough to all of Southern California’s other recreational and cultural attractions.

Health Care in Highland

Another attraction of the Highland real estate market is proximity to world class health care institutions. Highland has access to many excellent health facilities that are in the Highland/Inland Empire area. Foremost among these is the world renowned Loma Linda University  Medical Center. Arrowhead Regional Medical, J. Pettis V.A. Hospital and the Kaiser Foundation Hospitals are also within easy reach. A little further out but still close are the all the major Los Angeles area medical services and facilities.

The city is proud of its reputation of being one of the most desirable communities in which to live within the Inland Empire. With its low crime, high safety record and its emphasis on community improvement and beautification, the Highland real estate market is a great option when looking for a home for the family.
